Whether you’re going on a first date or meeting someone for the first time in a work setting, over drinks, an event setting and so on. Starting up a conversation with a stranger can be daunting. That’s why below I have put together a list of ways of breaking the ice.

How do you know so and so….? ( If you’re in a setting where you’re both there celebrating or invited by someone this is a great way to break the ice and you have a common connection. This can help spark the conversation to go further.)
Where are you from? A great way to learn about someone and make them feel comfortable.
What do you do? Simple and to the point, don’t you think?
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Do you have any pets, if so what’s their names, how old? Everyone loves talking about their pet/pets.
Have you read any good books lately? Great way to know what they’re into, what sparks their interest or imagination.
Do you like to travel, where has been your favorite place that you have visited?
What’s your favorite cocktail ( If they’re already drinking find a common ground, ask if they have tried, that mixed with something else.)
Do you have any suggestions for local places to eat?
What’s your favorite type of food?
What’s your favorite movie?
If I was to check your most recently played song on your playlist, what would it be?
Do you have any siblings?
Where did you go to school, ( High school, college,etc.)
What show are you watching right now? You might get yourself a new Netflix and chill buddy!
